Borneo Jazz Festival which was formerly called Miri Jazz Festival is a 2 days annual event held in Miri, Sarawak. The festival is intended to connect audiences through music and at the same time celebrating the diverse and rich cultural heritage of Sarawak. It's an on-going objective of the organizer to promote music tourism in collaboration with the local Sarawak communities to showcase the exotic cuisine and the wide array of Borneo's indigenous art and crafts.
The event which is organized by the Sarawak Tourism Board assembled regionally and internationally recognized jazz musicians. The event brings together different styles and exotic version of jazz musicians from the USA, Brazil, France, China, Holland, Malaysia, Canada, Japan, and India.
The 2 days event features great jazz, funk, Latin, Oriental jazz, Carribean roots and blue. Each group or musician have their style and music preferences. The event provides a venue for the participants to exchange ideas, share knowledge and maybe a future collaboration.
Besides the evening concerts by the participants, the 2 days event is filled with craft-work display, selling of souvenir and event’s merchandise and also food and beverage. There is also the Sarawak Traditional Craft demonstration by local craftsman and artisan.
The re-imaging of the festival is in time to reflect the growing stature of the festival among the leading jazz festivals in the region and positioning Sarawak as a unique venue among jazz aficionados.
